Ever since the iPad launch, we at HowStuffWorks.com knew that we wanted to create an app that could take advantage of the tablet's features. Like hundreds of other companies, we began to play with the iPad and brainstorm ideas for an app of our own. We knew it couldn't just be a repackaged version of the HowStuffWorks.com Web site -- you can use the iPad's Internet browser to visit that.
Instead, we gathered the best articles, podcasts, videos, quizzes and other content and built an app that could access it all. With the HowStuffWorks.com iPad app, you can explore everything or concentrate on specific interests.
The Home Page
When you launch the HowStuffWorks.com iPad app, you'll see images and links to various kinds of content. This view lets you browse the latest updates to the app. You can choose to read articles, watch videos, listen to podcasts and take quizzes all from this page. You'll also see interesting facts and quotes scattered throughout the home page view. Got some time to kill? You'll find plenty of interesting content from this page alone.
If you're looking for something in a specific field, such as technology, you can choose to browse our articles by category. We've optimized the app to display our articles so that they are easy to read and navigate. Want to learn how earthquakes work or what quantum suicide is? With just a tap of the screen you can find out.
When we first launched our initial podcasts a few years ago, we had no idea how popular they would become. But now that we have millions of fans across the world, we knew that we had to include our shows in the iPad app. You're able to listen to our shows directly from your iPad. That includes our big hits like Stuff You Should Know, Stuff You Missed in History Class and Stuff Mom Never Told You. And don't forget to check out TechStuff, hosted by a particularly handsome senior writer and his editor extraordinaire.
For the smarty pants iPad owners, we have dozens of quizzes available for you to tackle. You can go from quiz to quiz, proving your intellectual superiority in all categories. Or, if you're more of a specialist, you can navigate by category and take quizzes in fields like entertainment, technology and animals.
This is just the beginning for our app. We've got big plans in store for future features that will make it even better. We're excited about reaching out to you in this new way and we're eager to hear what you have to say about it.
